BYMC has developed a comprehensive set of services grounded in emerging evidence-based practices and research. Our model is effective because it provides disadvantaged young mothers with a supportive environment where they have an opportunity to experience success and develop into self-sufficient young women.

Support Services

Boy & MotherBYMC provides ongoing case management and education advocacy services to disadvantaged young mothers to ensure that young mothers experience educational success and self-sufficiency.

We help disadvantaged young mothers re-connect to school and stay there with an eye toward graduation. Additionally, BYMC offers an added layer of support to our members by providing them with support through our Urban Doula Network and other enrichment activities.

Self Development

Mother Playing with SonBYMC helps disadvantaged young mothers enhance their future success by developing their social and emotional skills through specialized sexuality and reproductive health education and leadership trainings.

During Phase One, members are involved in Power Sisters Academy where they are instructed in self-care, sexuality and reproductive health education. As part of Phase Two, Advocacy and Thought Leadership Academy, BYMC focuses on developing the leadership capacities of young mothers by training them as youth organizers and peer educators.

Upon successful completion of these two phases young women are given an opportunity to participate in an intensive training process so that they are able to work alongside BYMC staff conducting outreach and educational workshops.

Education & Training

Frequently, BYMC staff is called upon to provide technical assistance and trainings to services providers.

Also, BYMC participates in several taskforces and workgroups designed to improve the outcomes of disadvantaged young mothers.
